The College Board Opportunity Scholarships program is now open for class of 2022 students. It guides students step by step through the college planning process. For each step that a student completes, they'll earn a chance at a $500 scholarship. When they complete all six steps, they'll earn a chance at $40,000. Please sign up and take the first step by building a college list on BigFuture.
Guided Pathway Support
The Guided Pathway Support Program (GPS) is a virtual college and scholarship advising program for African American high school juniors and seniors. The program invites students and parents to our online college access community for counseling and application support at no charge. The program does not have an application deadline and serves students throughout the calendar year.
Free STEM Workshop for Girls
AAUW’s free STEMEd for Girls program, which starts July 7, was created exclusively for girls in grades 9 through 12, with a focus on girls of color, and the parents, guardians and caregivers who support their dreams. It will pave the way for girls’ STEM success in college and beyond.
This series of six lively virtual workshops will inspire teen girls in a supportive setting and show them they have just as much potential in STEM as boys.
The program will:
Show girls how accessible—and exciting—STEM can be.
Explore the variety of subjects they can choose as a college major, from astronomy to zoology.
Teach girls about the rewarding and well-paying careers a STEM education can prepare them for.
Pair girls with a mentor working in a STEM field.
Engage parents, guardians or caregivers to ensure girls have the support and encouragement they need on the pathway to STEM.
A free program called Hoos First Look. Hoos First Look is a three-day, two-night, all-expense paid program designed to allow around 20 low-income and/or first-generation high school juniors to visit the University of Virginia and make them more competitive applicants in the admission process.
Hoos First Look will take place on November 5-7, 2021.
The priority deadline to apply for the program is Monday June 14, 2021 11:59 PM EST. If students miss this deadline, they will still be able to apply for the regular deadline on Tuesday September 14, 2021 11:59PM EST. Students can find the link to apply here:
